PDO Threads

PDO Threads in Olney, MD

PDO threads are flexible and durable sutures made of an absorbable polymer called polydioxanone.

During a minimally-invasive thread lift, they are placed beneath skin to lift, rejuvenate, and volumize tissue, without the risks, downtime, or permanency of a surgical facelift.

Continue reading to learn all about PDO threads, including how they work and what patients can expect should they decide to undergo a thread lift.

How Do PDO Threads Work?

PDO threads are available in a number of different textures in order to tailor treatment to each patient’s needs and goals.

Mono threads are a singular strand of smooth material and great for subtle lifting and smoothing.

Cog threads have a barbed texture, which is designed to achieve a more dramatic lift and stimulate collagen production.

Screw threads are comprised of one-to-two intertwined sutures and are commonly used to add volume to the treatment area.

How Is a Thread Lift Performed?

Prior to treatment, skin is cleansed and marked to indicate the insertion sites and direction of PDO threads. Then, a local anesthetic is administered to numb the targeted area.

Next, a PDO thread is attached to a tiny cannula and pushed through tissue to provide desired lifting and/or volume. Once the thread is in its proper position, the cannula is withdrawn and the process is repeated.

Depending on patient concerns and goals, a total of one-to-15 threads may be applied during the course of treatment.

At the end of the procedure, extra material is trimmed, and the threads are massaged to smooth tissue and avoid dimpling.

How Long Is Recovery Following a Thread Lift?

Thanks to its minimally-invasive nature, a PDO thread lift requires minimal recovery.

In fact, most patients are able to return to work in three days and resume normal activities within one week.
