Botox Duration

When considering Botox injections, most patients want to ensure that it is a worthwhile investment of their time and money. To this end, they often ask: How long does Botox last?

Continue reading to find out the answer to this question and learn what patients can expect from the Botox procedure.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox is derived from Clostridium botulinum bacterium and is injected into specific facial muscles with an ultra-thin needle. Upon administration, Botox blocks the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine and prevents the affected muscle from contracting.

As a result, the muscle remains in a relaxed state and is unable to wrinkle or crease skin above, which softens expression lines and smooths skin.

Botox Procedure

Prior to undergoing Botox, patients will have a thorough consultation with one of our highly skilled and talented injectors. We will inquire about your concerns and goals, assess muscle movement and size, and develop a customized treatment plan to achieve desired effects.

The actual procedure is performed in the comfort of our office and usually lasts 15-30 minutes. It begins with sterilization of the treatment area. A topical anesthetic may also be applied to numb the area and improve patient comfort.

Next, you will be asked to activate the targeted muscles to determine the most appropriate injection sites.

Finally, Botox is administered as a series of strategic injections. Most individuals feel little more than a light pin prick sensation and say that the treatment is over before they know it.

How Long Does Botox Last?

How long does Botox last? This is one of the most common questions among patients, and an important piece of information to have before committing to treatment.

Within three-to-five days of treatment, Botox begins to take effect and produce visible wrinkle relaxation. It can take seven-to-14 days to appreciate full results.

In most cases, Botox results last three-to-four months. Over time, patients find their injections last longer and that they need fewer treatments to maintain consistent benefits.
